This was a pre-arranged old-timers game playing under Artemis rules (only one ally, allies must be announced at the beginning of the game.) Knife and BigB were right next to one another so quickly met and announced their alliance. DPR and Billy the Mountain were the next to meet and ally. Finally, Bugs and I met and allied.

It quickly became apparent that Bugs and I were in the middle, and most of the jumps to Billy and DPR were open at the time. I was able to explore about half of Billy's worlds and he was able to explore to just short of my Home World. The main action was to come from Knife and BigB to the south, though, as BigB 'neered the jump to Bugs' Home World open (planets never explored so not on the map) and sent through a large fleet. I was able to see it happening, so closed all the gates leading west and moved ships down to stop them from nuking Bugs.

BigB and Knife realized that they most likely wouldn't be able to nuke Bugs, so pulled back and shut the gate behind them. After some diplomatic horse wrangling they then moved north to face Billy, while Bugs and I moved west from Watering Hole against DPR. Facing our combined fleet, DPR realized he had no hope, conceded, and allowed my advance scouts to nuke his Home World (Slaughter House). This allowed us to quickly colonize his planets and move south to meet Knife and BigB's fleet.

We had BR advantage because of the distance they had to go, so we destroyed their fleet. I then made mad dash back east to meet the new fleet we knew they would be building, while Bugs dismantled most of her fleet to rebuild another one. It was dicey there for a few turns, but Bugs did manage to destroy the fleet as it was attempting to nuke her Home World.

They managed to put up one more major battle, but our higher BR and econs allowed us to both defend against them and finish off Billy. The last several turns was then just a matter of hunting them down and finishing them off.

Hats off to the other five players — this was one of the best games I've been involved in.
