Ah's Commentary
There's nothing especially interesting about this game except
for the connection between 23,18 and Wonderland - it wasn't there
when the game began.
Initial contact was around 21,16. I got one science ship in as
far as Rabbit Hole. Seeing that there was going to be the
possibility of engineering
an attack into Aggie's backfield, I
slipped a second science ship in while he did his pop trick. What
a pleasant surprise to find Aggie's HW next to 23,18!
While Aggie overbuilt a
fleet to attack my colonies, I built
an engineer, and then in the next update overbuilt a BR-3 invasion
fleet while the engineer opened the jump. Complete surprise
attack.
Here you see the invasion fleet poised over Aggie's HW. Since
he missed the opening of the jump, he was unable to assemble a
large enough defense fleet. Game over. A little luck makes one of
the best allies possible.
Aggie's Commentary
Not much needs to be added to Ah's description. He did a good job
of pulling my ships in to his border planets to make sure that
they were well away from his real attack.
It is significant that I didn't watch the map carefully enough
to see the jump opening, though. I had a builder with a stargate
in the planet under Rabbit Hole, so if I had seen the jump open I
could have gated in a fleet to my HW to kill off his attacking
fleet. I didn't know how many he would send through, so I can't
say for sure that I would have built enough ships to kill all of
his, but just the possibility shows how important it is to
CAREFULLY check the map EVERY turn, even in areas you think
safe.
